What seemed like only moments after Cealla had deposited herself in the chair, the soft sound of padded feet could be heard at the Tunnel entrance. Soon Xavier appeared in the doorway, covered in a mix of rain, dirt and blood. Behind him dragged a magnificent stag - the recent prey of the Lycan. His rack was significant, and the signs of a brief but brutal battle showed on both bodies. The kill marks were fairly evident on the stag, and one could also see several streaks of blood criss-crossing over Xavier's weakened body. The animal must have been a dominant male in his group, which only furthered the theory of a grand spectacle. Xavier dragged the carcus over in front of the fire, then limped slowly over to a corner of the room and flopped down onto the ground, sighing heavily as he did so.
Indeed, the battle had been spectacular. Although it lasted only half a minute, the events leading up to the fight were quite the little story. Xavier had smelled the herd from two miles away and begun formulating his plan. Moving downwind of the deer, Xavier crept silently through the forest until he was mere meters away from the creature. Of course, the animals were alert to any signs of danger, but so far he hadn't been spotted. Then as the herd began to move, the stag remained behind to protect the rear. That opened up a window for Xavier, and he took it. Leaping out from behind a large bush, Xavier had immediately slashed across the stag's snout, damaging one eye and causing the animal severe pain. Immediately following this, Xavier had circled his confused and frightened prey for a few moments before striking again. However the stag heard his leap, and swung his mighty antlers in Xavier's direction, impaling him in two places with them. The Lycan howled out in surprise and anger, then pulled himself off of the beast and circled it again. After confusing the animal as to where he was, Xavier again struck, this time aiming for the jugular vein and hitting it square on the mark. His teeth sank deep into the animal's neck, squeezing it tightly, cutting off the blood flow, then snapping the animal's neck, giving it an instant, relatively painless death. Xavier felt no joy in making the animal suffer anymore, so he had grabbed his kill and limped back to the den.
As the deceased prey laid in waiting, Xavier licked tenderly at the various wounds that he could reach on his own, letting his body heal them slowly. However, he howled in pain at the two puncture wounds that the stag had inflicted on him. He wasn't able to heal them easily. He needed to change forms, to bandage them up. Howling out again, Xavier changed back into human form and brought his knees up to his chest in a protective position, in too much pain to bother with finding clothing. Blood seeped from the open wounds, traveling slowly down his body until it dripped onto the floor.
"Cealla...please...get my robe and bandages for me," he said weakly. "Mikayla, Paige, feel free to enjoy the meal. I'll be fine. I just need a few moments to rest and heal."
Xavier shivered and grunted in pain, gritting his teeth. He felt something inside him bleeding. The stag had probably hit a vital organ during his attack. That would take a few hours to heal properly. The Lycan then leaned over, coughing up a bit of blood. Collapsed lung. $h!t...that would make life interesting for a little while. Xavier's regenerative process wasn't as good at healing vital organs as it was closing open flesh wounds or stopping bleeding. He coughed again and spat out more of the vital fluid, then wiped his mouth and looked up at the females, smiling weakly.

It had seemed like he was gone no more than twenty minutes before the male returned, a considerable kill in his jowls. She could feel her stomach rumbling just by looking at it, though she didn't fail to realize the pain that Xavier was in. The stag had obviously put up more of a fight than he had been expecting, but she knew that he wasn't the kind of lycan to back down from a fight like that. She sighed; sometimes his stubborness could get him into trouble.
Hence she was heading to his room for the bandages before he even asked her to, returning with some herbs and a blanket as well. It wouldn't do him any good to put on his robe while he was still wet.
Gritting her own teeth with thought, she tossed him the blanket and gently helped him to wipe away some of the blood and water from the rain. Carefully, she lifted the herbs to her nose to make sure they were the right ones- she'd found them lying on her father's bed around a week ago and had assumed that he had picked them somewhere by the lake.
It turned out that they were the right healing herbs, and so she proceeded to lightly place them on top some of the smaller wounds, then wrapped the bandages around them. She didn't want to touch any of the deeper cuts; figuring that he would rather take care of them himself. Once she was finished, she neatly piled up the bandages and mopped up a bit of blood from the floor.
'You should rest.' She sent, the slightest hint of worry in her eyes. 'Paige and I will be able to dine peacefully with Mikayla, if that's what you want.

Golden eyes watched as Xavier retreated in search of food; she had chosen to remain silent rather than answer his question due to the simple reason of ego. Her ego and pride couldn't take letting them know she'd locked herself away, she didn't want anyone seeing her weaknesses.
Smiling faintly at the lycan pup, she sent How have you been, little one? A rather silly question, obviously she hadn't been good with everything that had happened. Her mother died, then the assassination of the pups, then her grandmother's death. But the pup looked strong, and she seemed to be coping better than expected.
"The pleasure is all mine, Mikayla." she said, the words coming out unusually polite. She hadn't meant to sound stiff or aloof, but she hadn't socialized with anyone, especially newcomers, in such a long while. Trying to assume a more friendly and approachable stance, she curved her lips into a grin and added "I was a Slytherin for a while, but I haven't been up to the school in months."
Even as she tried to appear friendly, her gaze scanned over the lycaness' form with a shrewd and calculating look. She'd noticed the looks and words being exchange between her and Xavier, she'd seen the playful flirting. And though it really wasn't her business, she didn't see how Xavier could be thinking of another female when Sealla had so recently died. And it was nothing against the new lycaness, but she didn't think anyone could compare to the fierce woman that was Sealla, in looks or power.
She had no more time to think on it though, for just then Xavier came back limping in and dragging the carcass of a large stag. The animal had obviously put up a good fight, and had gotten a good chunk out of Xavier's strength. As Cealla went about getting his bandages and robe, Paige stood and headed back to her chamber. She reappeared after about ten minutes, carrying a vial in her hand.
"Drink this, it'll speed up the internal healing process." she said, handing over the vial to Xavier. It was filled with a reddish-orange liquid that slowly swirled in it's container, darkening and lightening then darkening again. The potion let off bright steam that carried a strong garden scent, a scent even more intensified in the nostrils of the lycans.

The fire crackled before Mikayla and she stared into it, shadows moving behind her eyes as their light source flickered. Thunder boomed high overhead and, knowing just how cold it was outside, she hoped Xavier would be fine. He was, after all, the only ally thus far in the cave, and he had been kind to her. Paige, while she seemed more amicable than Cealla, also had something about her that Mikayla couldn't ignore no matter how hard she tried. I wonder what it is that's got everyone here acting so strange... she thought to herself as even the peaceful sound of rain falling slowly could not comfort her anymore.
Mika's head shot up as a noise resounded, something of a pained howl splitting the night. Looking over her shoulder, she watched as Xavier dragged in a huge animal, one Mikayla had not thought a lone wolf could take down. It was one of the more powerful of a herd, and it was insane for Xavier to have taken it down so easily. Then she noticed the limp, the heaving chest, the pain as he released the great beast from his impressive set of teeth and moved slowly to the edge of the cave. Cealla immediately got medical supplies, faster than Xavier could ask for them after he transformed. Paige got up to get a healing tonic, just after Cealla left. And there was Mika, watching someone who helped her and helplessly not knowing what to do. He told them to eat, a ridiculous thought in his condition, and instead Mikayla stood, the dominant flare back in her eyes with more force than before.
Watching Cealla set to work, Mikayla stalked forth, muscles moving in places where they didn't exist. "How can I help?" she asked, her tone daring Cealla to even try to make her back off. They had saved her life that night and the least she would even consider doing is wipe up the water and blood from the floor. Something to make life easier on the three tunnel lycans.

The pain...oh, the pain. Xavier knew he would live through it, of course, but sometimes the amount of agony that Lycans had to suffer through to heal properly was excruciating. Even before he asked, Cealla had gone and returned, carrying bandages and herbs to heal his wounds. He nodded gratefully and reached up with his less injured arm and placed a hand on his granddaughter's cheek.
"So quick to action, so knowledgable. Just like your grandmother, Cealla. She would be very proud of you right now," he said as he wiped a tear from her cheek with his thumb. "Oh, how I wish she could have lived to see you grow up. I would gladly exchange my life for hers any day."
Xavier hissed in a breath as his granddaughter placed healing herbs over some of his wounds. The sting was quickly followed by a cool, soothing sensation. He smiled and nodded at Cealla.
"Just the right herbs. Thank you, little one."
Xavier leaned back his head and closed his eyes, trying to avert his thoughts from the pain he felt as Cealla did her best to patch him up. Xavier reached over to the pile of bandages and took a roll for himself, then wrapped his waist area in the cloth to conceal himself. Feeling slightly better, Xavier noticed Paige come in with a swirling liquid that looked a lot like carrot juice. He gratefully took the liquid from her, nodding politely, then throwing back his head, downing the concoction in one gulp. He moaned quietly as he felt his insides speed up the repair process, then cried out in pain as his lung began rebuilding itself, then inflated adequately to give him back his breath. He took in a few cautious breaths, feeling the tender new cells struggling to hold the lung together. They would be fully repaired in a few hours.
"Thank you, Paige. That hit the spot - literally."
As Mikayla approached the group and asked how she could assist them, Xavier gave a weak cough-ridden chuckle and answered her.
"Mikayla, go back into my room and grab my black tunic and pants out of my trunk, then fetch my silver thread-lined cape from the wall in there and come back here. I need clothing again," he said with a weak smile. "Now then. Cealla, Paige, let me try to stand up."
Xavier unfolded his legs and braced his hands on the wall behind him as he slowly and unsteadily got to his feet, then baby-stepped his way over to his big cushy chair, collapsing into it and sinking comfortably into the seat.
"Much better," he sighed. "Now that I've been taken care of, the meal is waiting. Please, eat."

She smiled as Paige's voice resonated inside her head and wondered if the lycaness had heard tales of the things that had happened lately. Word did travel quickly, of course, especially around the tunnels. But she seemed to be more of a loner than most, so perhaps she hadn't heard. Shaking her head quickly, she decided that Paige's simple words had invoked far too much thought.
'I'm doing fine. Thank you very much for asking.' She replied, turning her head to make eye contact with the woman while speaking to her telepathically. Her attention was then focused back on Xavier, who was obviously wincing from the effects of the herbs.
Her eyes warily shifted to Mikayla as soon as she walked over, running up and down the girl with a sense of distrust. However, she did seem determined to help... but Cealla wasn't going to be the judge of what she could and could not do.
"I don't know... everything seems taken care of..." She replied with a shrug as Xavier quickly sent her off to his room to fetch him some clothing. Nodding, she offered the lycan her arm as he attempted to stand, but then withdrew it. He was much bigger than her and she probably wouldn't be much help.
Sighing, she shifted into wolf form at his command to eat and then proceeded to drag the stag closer to the fire. It was a very clean kill that left little blood on the floor and the animal did have a fine head of antlers. So she curled up by one corner of the beast and proceeded to strip away the fur of one of the legs and munch upon the muscle, all the while keeping a watchful eye on her grandfather.

Mikayla ignored Cealla, who told her there was nothing left to do, and strode easily to Xavier's room, a predatory grace upon her maginificent figure. She looked around, seeing the trunk on one side and the cape to the other. Grabbing the tunic, then opening the trunk to find the pants and the tunic just underneath them, Mika went back into the main room. Xavier was sitting in a gigantic chair which looked more than just a little comfortable. She smiled at him, handed over the clothes, then turned to see Cealla eating from the stag her grandfather had brought in. She remembered something he had said then, something of making her grandmother proud. Of giving his own life for hers. Which explained some of the dirty looks she had been given. Even that didn't quite make sense, though, as she was so much younger than he was. She was seventeen, probably young enough to be his child if his grandchild had already been born.
Shaking her head at the nonsense of it all, Mikayla strode back to a shadowed corner of the room, not wanting to Change in front of them all. Delicately stepping from her pajamas so they would still be usable after she changed back, Mika went down on all fours, naked body partly hidden by shadows she was greatful for. The Change came swiftly, bones popping loudly, face shape changing, body becoming stronger. When it was done she moved towards the meat, shaking out her brown fur halfway there. Her eyes were still a blue so pure it was insanity to look directly into them, lest one fall into that gaze and never return.
Mikayla sat in front of the stag, but didn't try to eat it. Instead, she looked a question at Xaiver, her mind calling out to enunciate the question a moment later. "Should you not eat with us? Healing comes faster with proper nutrients." Her unnerving eyes caught his unerringly before she brought her muzzle down, still watching his eyes, and ripped the fur from the stag's flank. She continued, delicately taking the strong meat of the back, blood dripping in a slow line down her muzzle.

Xavier smiled as Mikayla reappeared carrying his clothes. He nodded gratefully and took them out of her hands and slowly bent down, sliding his legs into his pants, then pulling them up and tying them off, pulling his tunic over his head, then wrapping his cape around him and tying it on at the neck. Several times in the process he grunted quietly as various healing body parts were forced to move slightly. He sat up straight and sighed loudly, then let his eyes follow Mikayla as she walked back into the shadows behind him until she was out of sight.
He leaned back and closed his eyes, taking in a deep breath. The scents in the room were very prominent tonight. He could smell the rain falling outside and various other scents drifting into the Tunnels from the outside. He smelled Paige and Cealla easily as the scent of the freshly killed carcass made his mouth water. Then he smelled Mikayla behind him, and as she removed her clothing her scent became stronger as she changed into her wolven form, coming out as a feminine brown wolf. Xavier noticed that he hadn't heard any cloth ripping. How thoughtful of her. As she joined Cealla by the meal, he heard her voice ring out in his head. He shook it and smiled at the group.
"No, no. I shouldn't move too much. Just leave me a good sized piece to cut off and cook in the fire so that I can eat it as a human. Changing again might reopen wounds. Besides, I'm in the company of family and a new friend. I'll be fine," he said as Xavier reached over to the table for his book on the Japanese language and began reading, mumbling to himself occasionally in the foreign language.
OOC: Ok...it's short because I have no muse. Sometimes boring jobs do that to you *gags* And yes, I am actually learning Japanese, just by audio CD rather than by reading.

OOC: LOL...I'm not saying anything, cuz all my posts are "short" Three Paragraphs to me tells your side and gives enough for the next person to work off of...at most five.... >.<
BIC: Mikayla gave one, terse nod of her head, watching Xavier with squinted eyes for a moment. He reached for a book-some title she couldn't place in her wolfen mind. Then he murmured something, completely incoherant to her, and she cautiously continued eating, watching Xavier as if he was some interesting creature...or just possibly their entertainment for the night. Nothing like a good meal and show put together...especially something as deliciously juicy combined with someone not making sense, but trying hard to. She tilted her wolf's head, her own eating having slowly to a steady nibble.
Mikayla then remembered something, the question he had asked her before that she had never answered. Perchance he had forgotten asking it, but she was bored and it would be fun to see if he responded in that strange, nonesensical tongue. "I have the answer to your question, by the way," Mika murmured hesitantly, half concentrating on the thick piece of fat sliding down her throat. I am an outcast, and an outcast I was since birth. The pup of Alphas, I was not necessarily more powerful, but I was a dominant by birth. The other pups despised me for it, not able to stand that though I may submit one sun, the dominance in me would still rule me, not making it true submission." Finding that her stomach was becoming full and her legs, after their abuse that day, tired, Mika layed down beside the carcass, heavy head on her paws, giving the herself some time before continueing her meal. More comfortable by far, she continued her response. "When I turned to humans of my age, they despised me for my figure and early years of attaining it, much like my fellow pups. I was left without any, my dominance and appearance keeping me seperate from the world. It is much the same here. The humans are disturbed by the predator, the dominant lycan I am. Their minds tells them to get away, to avoid the predator and keep to safety."
It was then that Mikayla noticed something important. The rain was easing up, soft moonlight filtering into the tunnels, no longer hindered by darkened clouds. Even the wet ground inside was drying of its own accord, the musty smell of rain beginning to disipate from twitching the Lycan's noses. The sun would rise in the morning, and, with it, Mika decided she would rise, possibly find something in the area with which to repay the other lycans, then be on her way. Closing her eyes halfway, sleepier than hungry and not even wanting to return to add more food to her stomach, Mikayla stood, moved slowly to an edge of the fire, and curled into a tight ball beside it. Her eyes stayed slightly open, still alert to the others in the room, but a soft humming filled her mind, the realization that sleep was no more than half an hour away. Her mind felt fuzzy, as if she would hear and notice things, but her reaction would be slower.

The pup quickly devoured the whole leg down to the bone, and promptly removed the leg bone from the rest of the animal. Proudly, she carried it over to a small spot by Xavier and proceeded to furiously chew away on it so that she might be able to crack it open and eat the nutritious marrow. Her whole appearence was very dog-like, as though she were a playful pup lying at the feet of her master, munching upon a bone he had given her.
In reality, she felt much older than just a few months. Her human appearence was of a seven year old child and not a baby or toddler. So much had happened after her birth that she doubted that she could ever return to that carefree mindset, when she used to play with Alissa and pounce upon her father just for fun. Everything had gone wrong after that. Truthfully, she felt as though she didn't have much more growing up to do. Growing up that would never come for her dead playmates.
Sighing thoughtfully, she finally cracked open the bone. Her tounge snaked inside and removed the pink marrow, enjoying the taste as she continued to ignore the adult's conversation. She honestly couldn't say that she cared much; there were too many thought swirling around in her own mind to worry about the problems of others.

Xavier momentarily suspended speaking in Japanese as he peered over his book, watching Mikayla eat a bit, then settle down and relax. He also watched Cealla ravenously attack the meat, then carry off a bone and enjoy cracking it open to reveal the marrow inside. Xavier smiled at the sight of both females relaxing in their own ways. This was the type of life he had been hoping for for so long. Quiet, relaxing moments among the clan with everyone just enjoying their time together. Of course, ever since the attack by the Vampires, no one in the Tunnels had truly been able to relax.
There was always some hint of tension among the group as one or more members kept a sharp lookout for anything odd during the day. Cealla had taken on that responsibilty somewhat with great maturity - maturity that she shouldn't have possessed at such a tender age. Xavier felt bad for her since she'd been forced to grow up so fast. She really had no childhood left. Most of the pups the same age as her had been killed or captured by the Vampires, and only Sean was left, and he seemed very shy recently.
Mikayla, on the other hand, seemed very grateful for the consideration and hospitality that Xavier had showed towards her. She was a very interesting creature, kind and compassionate, but at the same time dominant and self-sufficient. She had a passion, a fire to her that he had only seen in Sealla. He felt sorry for her because of her mistreatment by her Lycan fellows and by humans alike. She seemed like she had no real place to go, and Xavier wanted to provide her with one. If his own clan didn't respect her, he would make sure that they did. He knew that they were all mouring over Sealla's death, as did Xavier - more often that most of them thought. He also knew that Mikayla was a special someone. Someone that needed a place to call her own and a place where she would be treated with respect and dignity for who she was. Xavier knew that Mikayla had a very dominant personality. Sealla had possessed one, too, and everyone had gotten along just fine. The male noticed that Mikayla was listening to the sound of the rain slowing. She would be leaving when it stopped. Xavier wanted to make sure she'd come back - hopefully to stay.
The green-haired Lycan yawned and put down his book, marking the page, then tenderly felt his wounds to check on their healing status. Satisfied that they were in no danger of reopening if he had to switch forms, Xavier went back into the dark corner of the room, took off his clothing, folded it neatly and placed it on a table, then changed to his wolven form and slowly made his way over to the meal. Licking his chops, Xavier stuck his nose under the dead beast, flipping it over onto its other side, exposing the untouched flank. He tore off the animal's flesh, then began working at the powerful muscles that he so much enjoyed eating. Blood dripping down his muzzle and covering his nose, Xavier swallowed his first piece, enjoying every morsel of the delicious meat.
Now THIS is good food, he thought.
A little while later, after eating his fill, Xavier licked off any blood he could get to, then went outside into the gently falling rain and let it rinse off his muzzle, then came back inside, shaking out his fur gently and walking over beside Mikayla, about four inches away, whereupon he sat onto his haunches, then slowly made his way down to the floor, where he sighed and closed his eyes as his hunger subsided and his subconscious took over. (OOC: Wow...runon sentence anyone?) Soon the male was fast asleep, his breathing steady and very calm.
