"Things will get better," Lottie tried to reassure the headmistress. Although it didn't seem like it most of the time, the brunette knew when to be calm and when to be more like her normal self. "Maybe now it'll all be over... apart from what's happening now, but apparently there's some other people sorting it out. At least one Gryffindor is... I can't remember his name, though. But he was saying about how we should all be doing something about it, so people are!" Lottie announced proudly, doubting while she was talking though that she was helping the situation little, if at all.
"Some Ravenclaws do.. but then they go and flaunt it and make the rest of us feel dumb," Lottie scowled, remembering Charms the day before. Okay, so she hadn't been able to finish her essay, but Betsy, being Betsy, had found the need to let the entire class know of it, before getting an O on her own essay.
"What's your best memory from school?"

Rose was only slightly consoled by Lottie's words. She had learned of late that knowledge and understanding can only really come from yourself, and she shouldn't expect Lottie or anybody else to be capable of sweeping her fears and insecurities away. Besides which, she had no fear of being attacked again. Though she had told no-one, for very obvious reasons - when she had incinerated that hooded creature, that disfigured being - all of his power, every drop, seeped into her.
"My favourite memory..."
Rose was wrapped in a whirl of memories. Where to begin? There was the time when she and Joel had turned the Common Room into a giant jungle jim for them to play on; there was the time when she had had her first encounter with the Forbidden Forest; when Alaqua had made her Prefect; when she had first met Claire... the list went on.
"I suppose it would have to be when a few of the Ravenclaws, and a few others too, all went skating on the Lake," smiled Rose, remembering how she had fallen because she had been a little over-confident for her first time. "I fell but then Claire skated over and helped me up, and then I could just about make it five foot without grabbing on to something." She laughed. "That was a good day."

"I've never been ice skating," Lottie mused to herself, letting the warmth of the cocoa fill her once more. "Unless you want to count the time Wyl and me walked down here back in February... he fell over. That was fun," she continued, sounding as though she was talking to someone else as much as she was talking to herself and the Professor.
Out of all her memories, she didn't think she could pick a best one, apart from the Shakespeare performance she and Wyl had given earlier that year, resulting in them becoming a Hufflepuff couple. That was a good day, too. But then, there were so many others she struggled to think of them.

Rose smiled. Clearly Lottie was going to leave MH with as many memories as Rose had of the Fortress. It was nice.
Rose turned her rainbow gaze to the world outside the window, not wanting to seem to push into Lottie's thoughts. The streets were getting busier now the world had finally become brave enough to face the cold. She watched people hurry past, and counted how many people actually smiled at the strangers they walked past, and how many kept their eyes fixed on the ground.
"So do you stay at school for the holidays or do you go home to your family?" asked Rose, turning back to Lottie after what she felt was an appropriate amount of time for reminiscing.

Lottie was broken out of her reverie as the Headmistress spoke to her once more. "Well, it depends, really. I mean, some of my family is here at the school. Sakura, she's my cousin, but we don't get along well, she's in Hufflepuff, too. And so is Ariana, only she's a vampire, now. It's confusing really."
Wondering what she would do for Christmas, Lottie thought it over once more. "Though I think this year I'm going to see what the rest of my house family do. See, I've got Wyl, he's my boyfriend, and then there's my big sister and big brother, Faerlain and Forgoil, then there's cousin Carmy, too.... and Rezna and Kasey are two of the bestest friends ever... So it really does depend," she mulled over. Staying at the castle for Christmas this year would be just as much fun as going home would be, she was sure.
"What about you? What do you do?" Lottie questioned, completely relaxed with the company now that the conversation was flowing easily between the pair.

Rose smiled at how affectionately Lottie spoke of her housemates. She could see that Lottie saw it as having two different kinds of family - and it would be hard to choose between the two.
"Well, I never go home for Christmas. I haven't since I was sixteen." Rose anticipated Lottie's questioning look and gave the briefest explanation she could. "I was always the black sheep of the family - they were heavy practitioners of Dark magic, and as soon as I found the courage in myself to say no to them, they disowned me. I was never the daughter they wanted me to be. But it never bothered me, much - I would much rather stay true to myself. So I spend my holidays here. This castle is my home, as well as my profession - it's my life, really."
Rose realised she had been rambling herself and blushed a little. She sipped her hot chocolate to hide her embarrassment.

"That's harsh..." Lottie whispered disbelievingly. She could never imagine not speaking to her parents, they always wrote to each other at least once a week and every now and aagin a pang of homesickness would still hit the young girl, but her housemates always cheered her up no end. They were good at doing things like that...
"It's good that you said no though... it would have been terrible if you had gone to the dark side," she commented, a rare seriousness taking over her tone of voice.

Something had been bugging Morgan. She hadn't made her way up to the astronomy tower in weeks, and she wouldn't go near a window in a tower anywhere in the castle. She knew that she would be a little afraid of heights after what happened, but she didn't know it would be that big of an impact. She had been having dreams about the school, and Hogsmeade, in ruins, burning to the ground. And her standing in the middle of all the ruin, a triumphant smirk across her face. Always awaking in a cold sweat, and taking walks in the middle of the night, promptly staying away from the bottom of the astronomy tower. For the longest time, her body had lain there, frost blue eyes wide open in shock and fear. Then it was carted off to the graveyard.
Starry nights city lights Coming down over me Skyscrapers and stargazers In my head This dirty town is burning down in my dreams Lost and found city bound in my dreams
She had decided that snowy day to go to the town, reassuring herself that it was still there. But her dress was entirely not suited for the cold. She needed a butterbeer, or Maybe a frostburn 'Morgan, Shame on you, it's not even noon!' She smirked to herself, and walked into the small tavern, getting a butterbeer, and turning around. She had lost her special powers, so she knew that Rose was back in power, and Danawi was dead. But it was rather a surprise to turn around and see the headmistress, Chatting with a Hufflepuff she knew from somewhere.
She decided to play it cool, she gave a smile, Her Crushed velvet form fitting dress was ivory with back trims, to match her hair. Moran took a sip of her butterbeer, and it warmed her. She smiled, The headmistress and Lottie were talking about everything and nothing. She took a deep breath and a slow shaky greeting came out of her mouth in her musical lilt. "Good Morning Professor Rose, Lottie." She immediately shut her eyes. Bad timing Mo.

The strangest of looks passed over the Headmistresses face, as though she had been held by a sudden notion. "There is a dark side in all of us," she said in a low tone, staring into her hot chocolate as though reading the words off the top of it. "It is whether we choose to acknowledge it that makes us what we are."
Snapping out of it, Rose looked up. Her expression was mollified by a small smile now - and then her eyes snapped onto the person who had walked in the door.
A strange pressure seemed to suck all the air out of Rose's body. Her rainbow eyes widened and she struggled to breathe as Morgan spoke words of greeting. Wilting Rose looked into the girl's eyes and, with a look of amazement and of horror, closed her own. Her body was almost vibrating under the pressure of being in the same space as her. Though she had not known, her body and her extraordinary level of power knew that Morgan Voltaire was one of the ones they called his followers.
Knowing that her small moment of reaction would go unnoticed by Lottie, Rose fixed Morgan's gaze again, this time prepared for the swoop of hopelessness that filled her body, and spoke gently.
"Would you care to join us?"

Lottie had been seriously lost in thought at Rose's final statement. There was a dark side in everyone? True, Lottie snapped at her cousin a whole lot more than she needed to, did that make her a bad person?
Would you care to join us?
It was those words that broke her out of her thoughts once more. "But I'm already - oh! Hello, Morgan!" Lottie greeted the Gryffindor girl cheerily, moving over a seat to give Morgan somewhere to sit down. Picking up her hot chocolate, glad it had gone luke warm now rather than boiling, the brunette girl drank a fair bit more. "Marshmallows are brilliant with hot chocolate, don't you think?" she questioned, looking at Professor Rose once more. She looked... different.
"Are you sure you're okay, Professor?"

Rose nodded, without looking at Lottie. Her eyes were still firmly fixed on Morgan's face, working it out like a difficult maths problem.
"I'm fine," said Rose with a half-smile. Then she pushed out a chair to Morgan.
"Sit."

Morgan tried hard to keep her smile sincere. Now it just looked forced. She tried very hard to break her gaze with Rose, but found that she couldn't. Frost Blue eyes teared up, looking at the purity of those rainbow ones. Her hand found her wrist and plucked at a hairtie around it. She cloesed her eyes, blinking back the tears. SHe was asked if she wanted to join, she she was speechless, her eyes opened quickly.
Rose knew.
Morgan's crysatlline gaze was still fixed on Rose's, and without looking at her, she spoke softly, "Yes, marshmallows are quite..." She didn't finish the sentence, nor look at the seat that was made for her. She was asked...No, Commanded to sit, and she sat, still fixated at that rainbow gaze.
"So, Professor Rose, I trust you're well."

Rose smiled at Morgan, cupping her hot chocolate and drawing it to her chest for extra warmth. "Oh, I dare say I've been better. But then again, I've also been a lot worse. I can't complain."
Rose stared Morgan out a few moments longer before turning her gaze to Lottie, who still looked somewhat baffled. Rose gave her a small grin before calling over the waitress again, who was beginning to look a bit ruffled with the sudden rush of hot cocoa drinkers.
"Another two, please," said Rose. She paid the waitress and drank the rest of her drink in one gulp, anticipating the next.
"So... how are you, Morgan? Well enough yourself?" said Rose in a pleasant tone, keeping her expression blank.
