"I wonder why she feels so awkward all the time. I know she's knew and everything, but I thought she'd calm down a bit when we started talking to her."
Persephone toyed with asking Haycee about the look on her face when she had talked about football and soccer. It didn't occur to her that there was anything strange about coming from an orphanage, it was just another part of her life. It wasn't something that she hid from others, and perhaps that was why so few knew. Maybe it was because she didn't look like your average orphan.
She decided it was better to ask her friend.
"Um...Haycee, you looked kinda strange when I was talking about football and soccer, like you'd never heard that before, or something. Um...I just wanted to know why..." Persephone's voice trailed off with unsureness.

Haycee got a bit uncomfortable in her seat. She didn't want to offend her friend and had hoped that Persephone hadn't noticed, but apparently she had. Haycee took a breath. "Oh you mean when you were talking about being raised in an orphanage? I'm sorry - I didn't mean anything by it - I was just surprised to learn that about you. I just didn't know you were an orphan and I didn't expect it because, well, I've never known anyone else who was an orphan before."

Persephone sighed deeply. It was a lot easier to cover the topic of orphanages and orphans than football and soccer. At least to her it seemed that way.
"Oh, ok then! Well, it's not exactly a secret, so I guess I just assume that everyone knows. I guess maybe I should have told you, but I didn't think of it. Hey, and you can think of me as the first orphan you've ever known! Well, actually I'm sure you've met more. A lot of kids here are orphans, but they don't talk a lot about it."
She smiled to her friend, wanting her to know it wasn't a big deal to Persephone. It was just a fact of life, something that couldn't be changed.

Oh wow. Haycee thought. There are a lot of kids at Magical Horizons who are orphans? Haycee took a moment for the information to sink in. How stupid I've been - I guess I just assumed that everyone had similar lives to me, that they all had parents? Haycee knew that it was stupid to assume such things. She hadn't assumed that everyone was muggle-born like her of course, or that they all came from America - why would she assume just one area like that? I guess I'm just silly! Haycee told herself. "Well, it doesn't bother me." Haycee said honestly. "And it's OK that you forgot to tell me - after all, I've only been here a short while and that's not usually one of the first topics to pop up. It's not like everyone goes around saying 'Hey, are your parents alive?' when they're just starting to get to know someone." Haycee smiled and somehow felt better about the whole situation. "Well, it is good to get know you better, Persephone. You're someone I feel sorta close to already, even though I haven't known you long. And knowing things about each other will make us even better friends, right?" Haycee smiled at her friend. I should really find the time to have a long talk with Persephone sometime. Haycee thought. It would be nice to learn more about her - she's such an interesting person.

Persephone was glad to see that Haycee was taking the information well. She knew a lot of students here would have fallen over at the thought that a lot kids went around with out parents, or their lives were completly different then them.
"I'm glad your not mad at me. I wouldn't want to lose you because I fogot to tell you a small detail. If there's anything else you'd like to know, I'd be glad to tell you. Just corner me in our common room, or walk with somewhere. It's a lot easier to tell stories in that kind of atmosphere."
Persephone smiled again at her friend. Haycee really was a good person, and she didn't want to lose her at all.

Haycee smiled back at Persephone, relieved that Persephone wasn't mad at her. Haycee's thoughts suddenly wandered to Loenah though. "Hmmm...Loenah has been gone awhile, don't you think? Should we check on her to make sure she's OK?"

Loenah sighed and bit her lip. She looked at her sleeve in the mirror and turned to leave the bathroom. The pub was still crowded and she could only just see Haycee and Sephe talking to each other over the table. She smiled, they were trying so hard to be her friends, and she was slowly letting them. It wasn't so bad, nor so hard. She could do it. She just had to push the past behind her and move through it to the future. It was possible. She nodded to herself and made her way through the crowd to the table.

"Oh hey Loenah! Glad you're back - I was starting to wonder if you were OK because you were gone awhile. Everything alright?" Haycee looked at Loenah with a bit of concern. Something told her that Loenah wasn't completely alright, but she wasn't going to push the matter.

Loenah put on her best smile and got back into the seat. "I'm fine, I was just checking my hair, after i had to wait in the atrosious <sp> que to get a cubicle." She rolled her eyes and waved a hand dismissively. "Thanks though." She added looking Haycee in the eyes.

Persephone could tell when someone didn't want to be pushed into an explanation. She decided to let it slide, and take a slightly more comical turn to the situation.
"I was starting to wonder if you fell in! We were going to go scuba diving for you if you didn't come in a second! Glad you did though!"
She smiled brightly, hoping that Loenah was warming up to the two of them.

Loenah saw it in Sephe's eyes that she knew Loenah didn't want to talk about anything that may have happened in the toilets, and smiled gratefully at her. "No need. I'm a pretty good swimmer... Or I can be anyway." She smiled shaking her head at Sephe's little joke.

Persephone smiled back, and lifted her butterbeer up to her lips. It seemed as if she and Loenah would get a long great. They both seemed to catch on to each other pretty well, which was a good thing.
"Good! I'd probably have gotten lost in the u-bend!"

Loenah grinned and took another sip of her butterbeer also. She felt more comfortable here woth Sephe than she had felt with anyone for such a long time, and she sighed deeply, in relief for feeling so... safe.

Haycee smiled at Loenah and Persephone. It was good to see them having such a good time. "So...what shall we talk about?" Haycee asked, having trouble thinking up a topic by herself.

Persephone shrugged. She couldnt' think of anything to say. It was one of those moments were you afraid that if the talk stopped, so would the good time. And Sephe desperatly wanted to find something to talk about, although her mind was totally blank.
"Honestly, I have no idea. How about you Loenah?"
