Kasey's eyes met that of the Demoness, her stare was cold and empty sending an unforgiving chill down the nurses back. She watched Mai rip herself away from Eurus, the one that loved her, that had come to cradle her and keep her away from the cold embrace of death.
Another scream rang through the forest as Mai's wings disappeared. It terrified Kasey, making the tears fall faster from her eyes. Another Demoness appeared and picked up the dying, she watched as large black wings cradled Mai's bloody and dirtied form.
Suddenly the demoness's eyes flew open and she continued to repeat, I can't see you.....you are not real the words shaken at first but then ringing clear as day in the bystanders ears. Kasey watched as the figure writhed and slashed at the Demoness that held her almost lifeless body.
There was soon a thud as Mai fell to the ground from Kalista's grip. Kasey wanted to run forward, to stop her fragile body from hitting the earth, but it was no good, she couldn't move, she was frozen with fear and overwhelming sorrow. But Eurus filled in for her.
Eying the pair, she looked over Mai's now still and quiet form, bright blue eyes widened as she could see no movement from the creatures chest. At that moment she wanted to drop to her knees and sob uncontrollably gasping for more oxygen with each sob.
Her hands shook with silent sobs, her breath unsteady and shallow. She watched Eurus cradle his loves lifeless figure. Taking cautious steps the nurse walked forward and knelt in the clawed and bloodied soil where the Demoness had once layed. She knew her actions could result in serious injury even possibly death, she reached out and placed a hand on Eurus' shoulder.
She did not move as he threw up blood, the crimson liquid trailing towards the spot where she knelt, staining her white pants with dirt and blood. Next to her another Demon fell overwhelmed by the nights acts. He would be fine of course, he would wake soon.
Looking back to Eurus, she gave him a saddened look that told him all was not well, that Mai had run to death's arms and was not coming back to his. She awaited the loud roars and slashings that would probably ensue as he came to realise the truth. She was prepared for whatever would come, her baby was protected.
