How do you mean? We have a divination class which may teach some runes...

I think perhaps he meant 'ruins' as in the ruins of a castle or some other forgotten place...?

Ummm I don't know what runes are taught in divination, but I was thinking more along the lines of... I don't know, in some books / shows / movies, runes are drawn to invoke a spell... Just seemed kinda cool to me.

Yeah, that would be interesting. In many cultures, runes were believed to hold some powerful abilities- depending on how you used them, of course. And to balance the art of runespells you must first learn how to write and speak the name of each rune before you can properly use them.

I use glyphs at times. In essence the same thing as runes. It's a nice little way for me to say 'stay out of here or I'll hurt you just for touching it'.
I think it should be fine as long as you know the appropriate spell and a plausible explanation of how you know how to make the rune.

Therein lies the problem... just what is the appropriate runes / spells? Do we have an official one, do we simply follow Norse runes, what?

The ones that Meralie teaches in Divination are Norse. The Elder Futhark alphabet, just to be precise.

Huh... and supposing one didn't want to post at every Divination class, would one theoretically be able to learn how to rune spell from, say, a book in the library? Or is that pretty unrealistic? Not to be rude or anything, I'm sure Meralie is a great teacher.

lol. Well, the Divinations class, so far as I know, only spends a brief time on runes, because Divination is one of the functions of runes after all.
And, I don't see why not. I'm doing it IRL; should be no challenge at all to find stuff on runes in a library at a wizarding school.

Just a quick correction - Meralie is the ex-Divination teacher. The current Professor of Divination is Azrael.
