The telltale flash of chromed steel was all the forewarning he had needed. As she rolled, his hand dove into the small of his back, whipping out a 1911 Colt .45 and aiming it perfectly at the rolling Mai, thumbing back the hammer even as she rose to her feet.
When her weapon roared the first time, Gavin simply muttered, "Up yours." and fired, not aiming for a warning shot, instead blowing out her left kneecap in a fountain of blood, torn muscle, and fragmented bone.

Mai growled as the bullet plowed through the flesh and bone of her left knee. She fell forward, landing on both hands and shot a sickly stare towards the boy, her scarlet eyes spewing venom. Her gun fell to the floor. There were a few places Mai knew mortals couldn't handle pain, and one of them, she most enjoyed tampering with, whether it be for the pain or not.
Turning herself to a sitting position, she inspected her shredded knee, hissing angrily at the dry pain bullets caused. It wasn't anything new really, her real brother was a fan of the horrid things, and oh how this reminded her of him. As hollow as the wound was, it wasn't classy at all, hardly any aim, not a good place to shoot either. Mai smirked and dug her first two fingers into the wound, pouring blood all over the stone floor.
With a simplistic glance his way, she repaired what she needed to to stand, though the back of her knee was bloody and tender. Her gaze returned to the wound. The bullet had gone straight through as she twisted and it now lay on the ground, blanketed in her blood. Utterly pissed off, the demoness scooped that bullet off the ground and hurtled it towards the boy, this time aiming for his neck.
She didn't give a warning, nor had she looked his way, and so, it hit home sinking into the flesh just above his collarbone at the lower corner of his neck. Once inside his flesh, Mai waited patiently for the blood to start to sizzle, acidic blood against a mortal was always horribly painful. As she crawled to her feet, kicking her own, empty gun aside, she stared at the boy through somewhat soft eyes.
She hadn't meant to kill him. He wouldn't die, surely. No, he couldn't. Mai swallowed distantly and blinked. She'd hit him, of that she was certain. 'I'm sorry'. She suddenly choked out to him telepathically, and her eyes quickly averted their gaze back to Laharl. What had she become? What on earth was she doing? Mai's chest rose and fell rather weakly.
For some odd reason, she felt faint.

This time it was Mai that capitolized on the minor distraction, as the stupid little human boy barged in on what could have easily been interpreted over the entirity of the school as an earth shaking battle to the death. She whipped out her arm after rising from the rubble, allowing a huge blaze travel towards the boy with a delayed reaction, erupting only when it made contact with him. If he was not instantly incinerated, and he kept down like a good boy, then he would likely have a front seat to the biggest fight ever held in the dueling hall. She then bounded towards him, in wide, separate strides that were too fast and unpredictable for him to keep up wi- -THUD- Laharl's eyes had trouble staying in their sockets as Mai cruelly buried the tip of her toe into his groin, as far up as it would go. He flew limply and helplessly at the other side of the room, crashing with almost the same impact as Mai did. She immediately followed up with an extended knee, cracking his pelvis in the impact. She finally finished with a fleurish as she brandished her own weapons, something that he never saw her carry before. Likely they were needles that she had aqquired from some student. Each one punctured him with deadly accuracy, and the one aimed for his temple had somehow lodged itself in the bone as he twitched involuntarily, staving the impact somewhat. He quite honestly looked as if he were knocked out from the pain. His senses did not tarnish though, not even remotely. Infact, the torturous needles served to do little more than agrivate him. His jaw tilted upwards, his eyes flared wide open in a vicious snarl as his brainwaves became almost involuntarily eratic. The needles unearthed themselves from his body, floating for half a second before they sped like bullets at Mai, tearing at her with little accuracy but still conecting with a couple. Laharl then lept up, his indigo mop top a blue hued blur as he rocketed himself, headfirst to her already punctured solar plexus, with all the weight in his body, and then some. Oh, much more, infact. Whatever injuries might have been ailing her earlier, this was by far the worst she must be having yet. And just to add insult to injury, he swung his tail around as she hobbled back, connecting hard with both her breasts and sliding off in a malicious, swiping motion. Mai would definitely be feeling a parilyzing pain in a moment. Larharl stumbled onto his knees, completely worn out. His breathing was shallow, and surprisingly, this was one of the first fights that it didn't hurt just to breath, if not for the uncomfortably pain seering in his abdomen. "Please stop." he managed to stammer, sensing that Mai still had plenty of fight left in her. "I can't beat you like this. But I would like to show you something....that I only use on my most fearsome opponents." he offered, looking up rationally in Mai's frustrated eyes. (OOC) Hoi, no kneecap blasting on Mai! She's my opponent at the moment, and I don't like fighting with handicaps. If you're so eager to have your head twisted from your shoulders, then step in line with the others.

THWAP!
Gavin was mildly aware of being hit by his own bullet before an incredible sense of searing pain drove him to his knees. He was unaware of the roar of pain-maddened fury that caused his throat to become dry and scratchy as it passed through. With only his fingers, he rooted around in his wound until he withdrew the bullet, swearing softly as it sizzled the skin from his fingertips.
He looked up in time to see the boy demon beat the crap out of Mai with only his tail, "Well....okay...." He muttered distantly.

Mai gasped loudly as the needles she'd thrown at Laharl suddenly appeared in front of her, at her, and in her. Cutting, tearing and spiking every part of her body, stinging and tingling sensations ran all over her skin as their sharp edges skimmed her with fiesty points, scraping whatever bare flesh they could reach. She swatted at them irritably, all she could do was wait it out.
While her eyes darted around herself, attempting to pinpoint the positions of the needles so she could perform some sort of enchantment and make them all piss off, Laharl fired himself towards her, slamming into her gut once more, and creating easily the most painful re-wound yet. Mai screamed and was thrown backwards, her ivory hair came loose of the red ribbon and flew around her wildly.
Just as she thought it couldn't get any worse right now, that bloody forsaken tail of his clobbered her hard over the chest, in a place she would much rather have not been touched at all. She cried out in pain and fell forward, though the majority of her back half was still headed for the ground. She winced as she hit the ground, falling back, her head hit the floor too.
As she hit the ground, hard, and crying, she heard Laharl's plee, but it didn't bring a smirk of satisfaction to her lips. Instead she rolled over, away from him, curling to hold her insides as best she could. She'd heard the cry of the boy behind her too, and that only worsened her mood. She heard him mutter something, and she heard Laharl's words, which coaxed her interest enough to have her tear-stricken eyes turn back to look at him over her shoulder with a heated glow.
Mai nodded.

Laharl let a faint smile cross his toothy mouth as she adhered to his offer, smiling with a faint hint of his former little brotherly self rather than his spiteful and vexing one. He looked empathetically at the gorgeous goddess of a demon, hurt and now crying on the floor. He then shot a quiet and indecipherable look towards the boy, denoting that he had in fact interefered in his fight without Laharl immediately realizing. This was all the more reason to show Mai his secret.
The demon prince pulled Mai to sit up, giving her a full look into his rusty eyes. "Take in the scent of my blood, and compare it to yours. Do you sense a bit of a difference?" he asked, holding his still scalding hand towards her and offering a scent to enter her nostrils other than the scent of her own blood. He knew it would be painful to respond, so he only meant it as a rhetorical question.
In short, their bloods held two separate wavelengths. Mai's was longer and had greater stregth to it. It was in its purest, most powerful form/ Wheras Laharl's wavelegth was shorter and quicker. While it was incomplete, it was highly instable and prone to change. This fact registered somewhat in her beautifully dialated eyes, and he nodded accordingly.
"You know how my cells have always been so unstable, sis? Its because my body always had trouble adjusting to this plane of reality. Thus, this is the form I chose to conserve the most energy."
A faint ring of dust started circling around his feet, scraping along his black Cons as he stepped away from her. His indigo locks at each side of his face fluttered lightly in the invisible ethreal wind that was starting to iminate from his body. He was then engulfed in a huge, sky blue light, much like the one he appeared in when he very first set foot here at MH. This went on for several moments, his strained scream ringing out long and hard as the light overtook his body.
After a moment, the light diminished, and a boy no longer stood poised before her, but rather, a young man. No longer was he the lanky, bratty little child with a fanged grin and bulbous, red eyes. Now his eyes narrowed with maturity, and a set of crafted metalic plates shaped themselves enderneath the rims of his eyes. His face was now smoother, and his skin more fair. His now defined and masculine body bore no more injuries of any kind, and he stood before her, his eyes quiet and waiting.
"What do you think...sis?" he inquired, his raspy and scratchy voice now deep and somewhat unsure.

Mai groaned as Laharl pulled her to sit up, and avoided his gaze as he tried to look at her.
"Take in the scent of my blood, and compare it to yours. Do you sense a bit of a difference?"
Mai frowned and shot a strange look at his outheld hand, like hell she smelt a difference. All she'd been smelling for the last fifteen minutes was blood, he had cracked all formity from her nose. She refused to answer, even if she did feel her other senses quiver at the notion that there was indeed a faint difference. Laharl seemed, more withdrawn, powerfully, in some way.
Mai's eyes narrowed and she looked at him steadily for an answer. As he spoke of his chosen form on this plane of reality, the demoness felt her eyes mix with confusion, she wasn't understanding him completely. What was he saying? Maybe it was the thumping pain in the back of her head, but either way Mai couldn't decipher the meaning behind Laharl's words. All but a moment later, she didn't have to. Mai was silently glad Laharl stepped away from her as a circle of dust began layering itself around him, and his hair danced in a wind she could hardly feel. Mai felt her breathing slow as Laharl's body was surrounded by a bright light, a striking similarity to the ball of light she'd seen around him the first day they had ever seen each other. Laharl's screaming sent a chill through Mai and she bent her legs closer to herself, placing both hands on the ground as she gazed up at his enlightened form.
Mai blinked, no, held her eyes closed, in disbelief of what she saw next. How could that possibly be? She could have sworn she'd seen a young man before her, not the mongrel of a little brother she'd come to know and love, and battle. She swallowed heavily and curled her lower lip into her mouth to hold it between her teeth, nervously. What now, was she hallucinating?
Plucking up whatever courage she needed to open her eyes again, Mai did so and their carmine abyss swam with confusion and surprise. His hair, was so, neat, spiked near his neck, but neat. His eyes, no longer a rusty maroon colour, now, a rich shade of wine. No more cuts and scars, a paler complexion, a build of muscle and maturity washed over his entire form.
Mai's jaw dropped, an incredibly rare sight.
"What do you think...sis?" Came a frighteningly mature male's voice, hushing Mai to snap her mouth shut. "I-I-I...Well...I" She spluttered out hopelessly, rising on shaking feet. Her pain was forgotten, for the moment, pushed aside as a dull ache, and her lips just wouldn't close. She stretched out a finger, touching his shirtless chest softly, tracing a gap between his ribs, analyzing the muscle.
Her finger then dragged itself up to his neck, then over his lips where a stubborn fang used to stick out, then higher still, to loop around his indigo locks, now a mass of fairly cute spikes. Suddenly, Mai snatched her hand away from him and covered a grin that was growing with cheek across her lips.
"I think all that swinging of maces and clubs has payed off." She joked smoothly, flashing him the old sisterly smirk she used to. Silently Mai was amazed, and somewhat excited, a whole new load of fun played behind her mask of the sophisticated demoness. Oh god she was dancing on the inside. All the pet names she used to call him seemed so much more fun now. Mai grinned.
"Well little brother, I spose you've finally had your growth spurt, no?" She teased playfully, reaching up to ruffle his spikes. Midway through this, Mai winced and pulled her hand back to her gut, where the pain seemed to kick in ten fold. Turning away from Laharl for a moment, she caught sight of the boy over on the floor and looked over her shoulder at Laharl, somewhat weakly.
"We have to get him to the Hospital Wing." She swallowed blood. "Quickly." A faint smile skimmed her lips as she showed a sign of sisterly affection towards the new Laharl, but it was also blanketed by a show of fought pain.

As Laharl spoke, Gavin craned his neck to in order to hear his raspy tone, and when the demon revealed his secret, Gavin's head jerked, as if those words had struck him an invisible blow,
This is the form I chose to conserve most of my power.
Almost as if he could see what was coming next, Gavin scrambled backwards, ignored the screams of pain coming from his left shoulder. As he flattened himself against the wall, he could feel the waves of energy washing off of Laharl, as if he had just risen from a pool of radiant power, and the excess energy was simply dripping off of him.
As Laharl finally finished his transformation, a massive wave of energy boiled off of him, spreading out and buffeting Gavin against the wall, injured shoulder first. His scream of pain was outmatched by the sheer fury of the energy wave, but he collapsed to the floor all the same, mewling silently in pain.

Laharl grinned with an uncharacteristic hint of reservation as Mai toyed jokingly with his locks, and made her positive remarks about his new features. He was somewhat surprised though, that this was all such a new concept in itself to his adopted sister. He made a note to explain later, as it seemed that there was another emergency in the room, regarding the blonde boy from earlier as he had obviously bit off more than he could chew. Laharl tsked sadly at this, and raised a hand to halt Mai.
"Wait, sis. I mentioned before that I chose that previous form to keep from letting my astral energies run dry. This is the first time since I came to MH that I even made an attempt at transforming. If we pass this up now, we'll not get a chance to see me like this anytime soon." he explained bleakly, sensing that Mai was about to protest.
"That doesn't mean we're leaving him here, though." Laharl added cooly. "Sit over him and hold on to him. I was going to do this for you to help speed up your recovery powers, but maybe this will also work to heal his injuries in themselves." As the grown demon prince directed Mai over to where the boy lied in a heap against the wall, Laharl poised himself, resting his hands on Mai's shoulders and concentrated on her power.
"Ready when you are."

{ooc}: So sorry for taking decades. >.<
{bic}: Mai listened as Laharl spoke to her, then nodded and allowed Laharl to direct her over to the boy by the wall. Kneeling down, Mai hoisted the boy's upper half into her lap and cradled his head in her hand, then she placed her other hand over his wounded shoulder. Closing her carmine eyes, the demoness drew in her concentration, focusing on the support Laharl's power was giving her.
Slowly, the boy's chest began to glow a pale blue colour, the light illuminating itself under Mai's pale palm, she pressed it into his wound harder, and the light intensified. Taking a deep breath, the demoness frowned, concentrating carefully as she mentally stitched what vital parts she could together. Finally, Mai inhaled deeply and opened her eyes, laying her gaze on the boy's shoulder.
Her eyes widened slightly, Laharl had been right. The boy's shoulder was healed to such an extent, not even a scar remained. She smiled inwardly and smirked on the outside, giving the boy a wink, whether he was awake to see it or not. "Hey, you alright?" She cooed to him, running a hand over his forehead to brush away his blonde tresses.
Thank you She sent softly to Laharl through telepathy, sheilding this thought from the boy. Whether it was just for the moment or not, Mai could feel a new level of power pulsing through her own veins.

(OOC) Heh, no worries. I'm no better.
(BIC) Laharl gazed down at this blonde boy, most curious. It was typically inconcievable for demons to treat humans in general like nothing more than a mild nuisance. And yet Mai cradled this boy's head in her lap like he was a dear thing to her. His swirling cranberry irises took in the boy's strained expression of pain, almost as if to let it swirl in his mouth like wine. This boy before him was.....
After a moment of unreadable contemplation, Laharl shrugged his thoughts aside and moved behind his kneeling friend, placing the tips of his fingers on each side of her temples. A blue energy quickly made itself visible as it flowed from his fingertips, gently stimulating all the nerve endings in Mai's still battered body as the energy raced through her CNS like quicksilver. Her injuries quickly lost visibility as the small push he gave rocketed Mai into a completely sound state of physical being. Her injuries were no more.
Laharl was unsure though, as to how to go about with lending his energies to the boy. He was unsure if the boy's body would even have the capacity to accept Laharl's pure astral energies without dying from the shock. The boy's eyelids flutttered slightly as Laharl ceased his transfer, watching the lad stir in Mai's embrace.
"Now listen, shrimp." Laharl growled, his tone now borderlining between threat and annoyance.
"If you can hear me, I suggest you get out. I will not accept responsability for anymore bystanders, and I cannot fathom for the life of me why either Mai or I should care. A fight like this was not meant for human eyes to safely watch. And aside from that, the energies now settling in your body are not going to relax without causing you some real pain." his warning was cryptic as his pupils sharpened to two deadly slits.

It felt so....foreign.
Gavin's entire body seemed to stretch itself, as if adjusting itself to the give the energy now lying within him more room. "Mmm....." Gavin muttered distantly, a laconic smile stretching across his face as his eyes fluttered open. "Tasty." Gavin said with a grin as he stared straight up at Mai, not indicating whether he meant Laharl's energy boost or her.
He rose smoothly, far more agile than a person should be after going through something like that. "You zapped me with some of your juice, neh?" Gavin asked quietly, moving rapidly through a series of ballistic stretches. The energy still felt foreign, and almost no matter what he did, he couldnt seem to get it...settled.

{ooc}: And again... >.< This time it was internet issues, lol.
{bic}: Mai could sense the uncertainty swirling in Laharl's aura, though she didn't say or do anythng to try and explain why she was cradling the mortal in her arms. It would either confuse both her and him further, or something far sinister, such as provide the boy with a significantly huge head. Instead the demoness let Laharl say all he wished to the boy, then she let her arms rest on her own thighs, leaving him to get up when he chose to.
Sure enough, not a moment later, the boy was receiving considerably obvious boosts of energy from the demons' power, performing all sorts of stretches, and commenting quite unexpectedly on it all. It was something like a moving commentary, Mai chuckled to herself quietly, knowing how much this must have been irking Laharl.
Finding her own footing, after acknowledging all her own wounds were no more, Mai rose without effort and jerked her head towards the door, while looking at the boy. "Go on, run along now." She urged in a gentle but authorative tone, sensing this boy needed a little more push to exit than most mortals. Upon closing her conversation with the boy, Mai turned to Laharl and raised a brow with a smirk.
"Now what?" She asked simply.

Stepping away and shaking his head in utter annoyance, Laharl was choking back the urge to kick that boy's annoying arse out of his breathing space. He obviously was not getting the hint, and much less held any sense of gratitude. Humans, all the same. Wretched, worthless creatures.
Laharl's head perked back up though, after Mai emplored the boy's exit and asked that ever-fateful question.
What next, you say?
Oddly enough, the boy's presence was now no longer a factor to Laharl. He could use his newfound strength to make an extra high jump in the lake, for all he cared. Laharl and the beauteous demoness before him still had a match, and even the most broodsome devils in all the netherworld could not stop this from happening. His eye glared with a dangerous glint as he stared at Mai over the corner of his shoulder.
And in an instant, Laharl vanished in a very faint blur, with his cranberry eyes leaving a wine colored trail of light as he sped over to where Mai stood. His hand placed itself lightly, delicately over her mouth, gripping at both of her cheeks. And a dangerous, malignant orb of light eminated from the entirety of his palm, swirling around Mai's face like a crystal orb or fire. And accompanied with this was the proximity of his eyes from hers, murderous and challenging. What was next? His eyes said it all.
The energy swirling around his hand then, exploded. Much bigger than anything that had trasnpired in the match yet. That side of the room was completely bare (of space) and crumbling with ruin. Standing in the middle of a massive cloud of smoke was Laharl, his grin wide with excitement and his pose the exact same as it was when he held Mai, except she was not there.
They were both now playing on a relatively even level. However, Laharl may have been weaker than Mai in his child form, but if he gave her such a hard time before, then she would probably have to stop holding back on him.
Oh Mai, wherefor art thou..... the prince mused silently to himself, rapidly skimming through the shroud of dust for any sudden movements.

Push me aside will you....
Almost immediately after they had turned away from him, Gavin moved towards a more strategic position, behind one of the nearby pillars, where he aimed to watch the 'fireworks' so to speak.
He was not disappointed as Laharl sped across the room, his temporarily enhanced senses making it easier for Gavin to track his movement. No amount of energy boost, however, could have prepared Gavin for the massive lightshow that Laharl produced in those next few seconds, causing him to shield himself as the dust swept over him.
Swish.....Swish.....
The gentle swish of air moving over garments at high speeds reached Gavin's ears even before the ringing had fully faded. Lowering his shielding arms, he could see Laharl's faint outline through the smoke. With a burst of energy, he leapt into the air, kick aimed solidly at Laharl's face. "SMILE!" Gavin crowed.
