Something's up... I can feel it.....

Makira Blackthorne strode slowly and quietly into the Dance Hall, dressed in an untucked, crimson, semi-formal dress shirt, a loose black tie, beige cargos, and a pair of dark blue sneaks. Her hair fell about her shoulders and her bangs covered her eyes. She slowly strode up to the stage, without a word.

Once she got up there, she summoned up a microphone, and started to sing....

A tear slid down her cheek, and she sighed. She started to sing again...

More tears slid down her pale-ish cheeks as she finished. "Ark...." She swayed forward, and...

It had been a long past few days, but exhausted as she was, sleep still managed to elude the school's Head Girl, so this sunny, mid-afternoon found Hikalyn ambling down the undressed stone corridor that led away from the Library, with the intention of crashing in the common room for a little while. She might as well take advantage of her few free moments while she had them.

As usual when she travelled this route, she happened to pass by the Dance Hall. The double doors were slightly ajar, but chances were she wouldn't have even noticed if she hadn't caught a faint strain of melody emerging almost timidly from the other side of the door. Pushing it open, Kalyn ducked inside, her amethyst eyes scanning the room. It didn't take her long to spot the singer.

A girl with dark brown hair spilling over her shoulders stood positioned on the stage at the other side of the Hall, singing into a microphone which amplified the sound out over a room that was empty but for herself, and now, Hikalyn.

Kalyn took a step deeper into the room, padding silently across the tiled floors to where the brunette stood as she listened to the girl sing. She wasn't entirely certain, not from this distance, but she thought that she'd seen moisture glimmering in the other girl's eyes. She said nothing, though, not wanting to interrupt and possibly embarass the girl.

The last few notes of the song trailed away, and the girl whispered something to herself under her breath. Hikalyn rather doubted that the other was even aware of her presence.

Quite abruptly, the girl swayed forward, as if unsteady on her feet. Quickening her pace as she took the last few steps across the room, one hand outstretched as if offering support. "Hey," she said gently, watching the other girl with some concern, "you alright?"

Makira looked up, and nodded slowly.

"Y.... Y-yeah, I... guess.." She wiped some tears from her eyes and righted herself. "Sorry... I've been sick... I dunno.." She plopped own onto the stage floor. " I just..... I have a feeling about somethong... but I don't want to jump to conclusions." She put down her mic and ran her finders through her soft brown hair. "Oi.... Something's up.... I can feel it..." She sighed.

Hikalyn absently brushed away an errant lock of raven-black hair as other girl straightened, taking care to stand close in case she should lose her footing again. When the girl seated herself on the stage floor, Hikalyn followed suit, angled slightly so that she was facing the other girl.

Seeing the brunette's tears almost unearthed a lump of emotions that almost made her want to cry herself, though it had been a long time since any liquid had found its way into the depths of her amethyst eyes, and none did now. She had become so proficient at supressing her emotions lately that she wasn't sure she still had the ability to weep, even if she'd been prepared to let herself.

"Too many things," she agreed softly, wishing that she had some form of reassurance to offer the girl, something other than empty words, something other than the promises that she'd been making herself, the Ministry of Magic, and everyone else that she was growing less and less sure she could keep. She released a slight sigh and shrugged her shoulders. "You're not alone there," she added, letting her gaze drift over the empty room, "I think everyone's been a bit on edge lately." Now she did offer the girl a small, reassuring smile. "It's probably just the tension getting to you, that's all."

Makira noted her smile and returned it. "Thanks. I'm Makira Blackthorne, Gryffindor. You?" She asked

Once again, Ark was stitting on the North Tower when the haunting melodies of his love singing floated up and once again, he ran. He slid down the banister in the Grand Staircase, get detention in the process, but he had to get there. Now, he panted as he burst through the Dance Hall, finally falling on all fours, panting. "M-Makira..." he finally got out.

Makira snapped her head up and saw...

"Ark...."

She turned to the other girl. "Excuse me: nice meeting you and thanks." she said hurriedly. She smiled at the girl and ran over to Ark, her footsteps echoing throughout the great Dance Hall.

Once she reached him, she put her hands on his shoulders and looked at him. 'Ark.... Ark, my love, are yu alright? Wh.... Why did you come all the way here for? It looks like you ran a mile!" she said to him.

"A-Actually, I think it was m-more like three." he said, with a small grin. "B-but I heard y-you singing" he continued, looking at her. It seemed like he just couldn't catch his breath.

Makira chuckled in spite of herself. He always made her smile or laugh.

"So.... I sang a couple songs. No big deal. Right?" she said with a small grin. She didn't know why he would run all the way he did just because she was singing.

he recited that part of the song. "I don't....want it to change!" he cried slamming a fist on the ground, tears falling, making a puddle on the floor. He didn't know why he was mad and crying, but he was.

Makira looked at him.... a shocked look marring her features.

"What? You..... You heard? All of it? Wh..." She turned away from him, only slightly.

She sighed, turning back to him, the smile gone from her face. "Love, All that means is that I wanted to believe you now, but couldn't. Tomorrow, that may change: I might believe you. I just.... have a gut feeling that .... that something's wrong, and that.. it's... gotten...... to you...."

A tear slid down her face, and she quickly wiped more away. "Love, I'm sorry." she whispered.

Silent tears ran down his face and Ark looked at Makira. "It has......I am now working for Danawi. I love you. But, yes, I am evil. But I now know that there is a small part of me still light. The part that holds you in my heart." he told her, slamming his fist on the ground again.

Makira's eyes widened. She had heard of Danawi, but never known someone who worked for him, nor expected one to be a student.

"Ark..... You.... Y-you..... How? Why? But... how can this be? I... I....."

More tears slid down her now pale face.

"Love..... I do, too, still love you. I'll wait for you. I will. That good will take over your soul... It will drown out your evil... It will... It has to... It just has to, Ark....."

She nodded her head and wrapped her arms around her front and sobbed.

"How could this be happening? Everything was going so well.... Our first kiss... All the time we spent together..... But... but at least I know there's good in you. That good I will love 'til the end. Ark, I'll wait... I will wait... for all of the good to return." She kept nodding, in a sort of denial.

"Thank You, but you cannot tell anyone for if they were to know, I'd be killed." he told her. "I'll promise to love you forever, no matter how evil I become. But I am going to do some terrible things, Makira. I won't be me." he told her. Right now, that light had broke the darkness' grip on him but returning. "I got to go. The darkness is returning and I might do something to you." and with that he ran out of the Hall, leaving a trail of tears in his wake.

She nodded. "I know it won't be you: it couldn't."

"I love you, Ark! No matter what, I'll love you!!!" She shouted as he ran off. "Thank you for keeping me safe!" She shouted again.

The tears slid down her pale cheeks in and endless stream. She sat there, crying her heart out. "Ark.... Come back to me.... Ark."

She sat there as her sobs echoed throughout the empty Dance Hall.....
