Ace nodded, secretly impressed at the steely determination the Hufflepuff obviously had. He had underestimated her, and now felt slightly ashamed at having given out advice to someone who obviously didn't need it.
He was about to suggest she get back to her Common Room before the Prefects got ahold of her (as if they would), when she asked him a question. About himself. Ace paused, unsure, and shifted awkwardly on the spot. Was he allowed to answer that kind of personal question? Or - seeing as Ace had never been one to care much about rules - did he want to?
"I'm not sure that's a question I should be answering," said Ace in low tones. He paused again, though, and looked at her as though weighing up something in his mind. "Let's just say... I can't even relate to the person I was when I first came here anymore. I've gone through hell and back, within these four walls, and the result stands before you, wondering if the first me was the real one, or if this one is. Change can be confusing, no matter how ready you are."
Again, he had gone too deep. Ace kicked himself mentally. "... And that's enough of that. Off to bed now, before I get told off for keeping you up late."

Michelle realised she had made the Professor uncomfortable with her question, and felt bad, but was pleased to get an answer anyway. Even if the answer was a bit scary. What kind of hell could exist in a place as wonderful as Magic Horizons? Maybe the Professor was just trying to scare her.
"OK then" she said, realising how late it was and not wanting to get the Professor into trouble. "Goodnight sir, and thankyou!" She grinned and walked away, picking up the rest of her books she had left before going to her Common Room.
