1) Is it ethical to use Magic on animals? Animals are there for our use & pleasure. & While I do not condone the blatant abuse of them, I do believe their use is vital in the use of magic. We eat them, why not cast spells on them?
2) Is it ethical to use magic on Muggles? Muggles shouldn’t be aloud any magical contact at all. Not for their safety but because they don’t deserve it.
3) When is it Ethical to use a Hex or Curse? When someone has done so to you. You cannot let such a attack on your person go unanswered. People will think you are weak!

Mesu took a seat and smiled at the room. It was a bit wild in decor of course, but all the more enjoyable to her.
Charms: Ethics Mesutashi Niaku Slytherin
1) Is it ethical to use Magic on animals? If the spell doesn't harm them, then I would say it is perfectly allowable.
2) Is it ethical to use magic on Muggles? For their safety, then yes, but for practical jokes not at all.
3) When is it Ethical to use a Hex or Curse? It is ethical in self defense and that is the bottom line in my opinion.

Figuring she hadn't spoken loud enough for Issac to hear her she said, slightly louder, "Hello, what did you write about? What are your opinions?"

Kalista looked over at Athena, her expression annoyed. “He can hear just fine, no need to yell.” She said bluntly, her eyes narrowing slightly as she put a loving hand on Isaac’s arm.
Kalista was annoyed, to be certain, however, her annoyance wasn’t really with Athena, she just happened to make the wrong move at the wrong time. Kalista sat back in her chair and crossed her arms, she kept looking out about the room, its whole persona, beginning to irritate her now as well.

Isaac glanced lovingly at kalista, then looked over at Athena. "I heard you the first time, I was doing something called thinking. Try it sometime." Normally, Isaac wasnt this.... snooty to somebody, but it annoyed him whenever somebody assumed that simply because he was blind, he was stupid.

Peering into the room to make sure he was in the right place (which he was for the first time that day), Beeks entered the room quietly. Noticing the lack of abundant open seating, he took a seat next to the frightening figure of Dante.

1. As is with all things, life isn't always fair for everyone. As tigers and dragons are allowed to eat us to suit their purposes, we can do likewise. However, as (semi-) logical beings it is our duty to watch over other creatures and avoid deliberatly harming one (with magic or otherwise). Even beneficial charms can be harmful to the natural balance. for example- If all rabbits had speed charms on them then all the foxes would starve. So animals should not be charmed unless it is beneficial to us and does not endanger anything else, and should not be hexed unless they are a danger to people (directly or indirectly)
2. Muggles can be ethically charmed/hexed at any time it suits wizard wellness. It is well known that muggles are never innocent, and if they are a danger to wizardkind, other muggles, or themelves, it is not only ehical but your duty to mankind to correct their misdoings. Logically though, you must execise all caution to prevent any muggles from finding out about wzardkind.
3. Anytime when it is beneficial to the community at large. Personal gain or harmful pranks are misuse of magic (although harmLESS pranks are ethically good for the humor of everybody). Self defence is also ethical in all ways, as is the defence of others, but always make sure you know who is attacking who.

Arwen walked into class breathless. She had gotten lost and ended up being late, smiling nervously at the professor she said "Sorry,I got lost." Walking to the back of the class she took an empty seat. She began pulling out parchment, a quill, and light pink ink. Reading the questions through twice she tapped her quill thoughtfully against the desk before beginning to scribble away madly.
Silmarwen Tîwele Hufflepuff House Charms ~ Ethics
1. Is it ethical to use magic on animals? Yes and No. I believe it is only ethical to use magic on animals to save their lives, or to keep their species from extinction. Using them to practice our curses and hexes, or just to show off our skills is wrong and highly unethical.
2. Is it ethical to use magic on muggles? No, it is completely unethical to use magic on muggles. They have no inkling as to the existence of the magical world, and using magic on them would put our whole world in jeopardy. Plus it is unfair to them if we use it to our advantage in a fight when they can not. Even if you are using magic to help them you might just end up scaring them to death or insanity limits.
3. When is it ethical to use a hex or a curse? It is only ethical to use a hex or a curse when dueling, for educational purposes, and to defend yourself - but only to a certain extent. It is never ethical to use one of the unforgivable curses.
Reading through her paper carefully, she looked for flaws. Sighing she got up thinking That's as good as it's going to get. Walking upto the teacher's desk she turned it in. Back in her seat she put away her things.

When Ceiced entered the room he was forced to pause. All of the exotic plants and... wildlife was a bit much for him, this being his first time in the room. He saw a spider crawl across his shoe and quickly kicked it off, shuddering. He didn't like bugs. He quietly sat in the back of the room and cleared the desk of plant life. He scanned the board and frowned. He hadn't used spells on others very much, so this would be a shot in the dark for him.
1.) If said animal is trying to tear out your vocal chords then yes, it is ethical. If you're just charming animals for some perverse pleasure then no, it isn't ethical.
2.) I don't believe it is ever ethical, even good, to cast magic on muggles. Unless magic is the only way to save their life then I suggest finding some non-magical way to solve the problem. If a muggle becomes cognizant of wizards and magic he would definitely be worse off than not. Of course from there you could use a memory charm, but why not just end it before you have to?
3.) Hexes are very useful in defensive situations, against attacks by other wizards or magical creatures. I think it's even ethical to have hexes cast while going about common tasks, just in case. Curses should be used sparingly, even in combat situations. Think about the problem, does it even need to be solved by combat, let alone a curse?

ShoShana was very excited. Her first Charms Class! she wagged her tail franticly while waiting for the teacher to say the could being. When she got the go-ahead, she took out her nice new parchment & selected orange ink to write with.

1) Is it ethical to use Magic on animals?
When you have permission from the animal to do magic on it.
2) Is it ethical to use magic on Muggles?
I thought you weren’t aloud to use magic on Muggles? I think there’s a very good reason they don't allow it but I haven't any idea what the reason is.
3) When is it Ethical to use a Hex or Curse?
At about the same time as I'd start using my sword the Tetsiga, I guess. Like when your life is threatened.

Rose entered the Charms class bemused by the decor yet pleased... She went to the front of the room to sit with the other Slytherin's. Professor B gave the instructions and the topic was Ethics, not a particular favorite of hers. She groaned as she began to think of something that would complete the assignment without sounding as if the professor was too out of line for asking.
Angel, the Slytherin girl to her right, said "Are we supposed to be talking about this or are we writing it Prof. b?"
She had been thinking the same thing as she noticed the other students writing on parchment. She just shrugged at Angel and began to write herself. It was always better to overdo an assignment then to not do it at all. But were to start?
******************* Charm's Ethics of Magic Rose Arcana - Slytherin
1) Is it ethical to use Magic on animals?
It is as ethical for a witch or wizard to use magic on an animal as it is for an animal to use its special abilities on witches or wizards. Ethics can not transcend from species to species, for not all species have the same ethical base nor the same comprehension of what a code of ethics entails. Even amongst beings of the same species ethics are something seldom agreed upon and is more of mannerisms than true ethical laws or boundaries. I feel if you can still look in the mirror and smile at what you see than it is ethically right to you.
2) Is it ethical to use magic on Muggles? According to wizarding law no it is not, however that is for the secrecy of the wizarding world not for the ethicality of the actions. There is always a place and time were magic is needed whether it be multilaterally ethical or not.
3) When is it Ethical to use a Hex or Curse? Again ethicality is used as a box surrounding others from exploring their own minds and finding what is right for them. I say yet again that if you can live with yourself after doing it then it was just in your eyes. What is a hex or a curse to some maybe a blessing or defense for another.
In conclusion, these questions are very open-ended and without any true resolve. In fact I say they are inquiries as to our inner desires and an attempt to insure conformity throughout. Ethics are only as ethical as the person who executes them... [/b] ***********************
She finished the assignment still waiting to find out if it was indeed oral or written, either way she had it covered. She knew she had gone overboard with it being her first day and all, but she felt very strongly that Ethics was something at the moral core of your being and that it was each persons own beliefs that made up their ethics and it should not be something that is thrown around or judged. Of course it didnt help that her ethics were outside the norm, but she was just too proud to bite her tongue and pretend to feel differently.
It wasnt as if she ever wanted to go out and kill animals or muggles or even hex and curse everything around. She just felt it was her own choice if she wanted to do so, and that her ethics were private and unique to her and not meant to be put on display.

Silver grinned at the Professor from her seat at the back of the class. "Unusual name..." she muttered to herself, her eyes twinkling first at him and then at the questions he placed on the board. Though Charms was not by the least one of her most favourite classes, she was convinced to try hard at every one of her subjects this year.
Ethics by Silver Stillwater, Hufflepuff Student
1) Is it ethical to use Magic on animals? To start my essay I would like to say that ethics is always a tricky subject, when applied in any case. In the case of magic, applied to anything; I would think that perhaps ethics have to be overlooked. It is not ethical to use magic on animals because, for one thing, magic is sometimes an unfair advantage that wizards and witches have over animals, who may not have the powers to defend themselves against it. Another reason why it is not ethical is because animals cannot communicate to us what they are thinking. We see animals as a lower species because they cannot communicate, and therefore we may think it is right to use magic upon an animal because they could not possibly know better than us, which is not always true. But, as I said at the beginning of this question, sometimes ethics have to be overlooked, especially if the animal in question was suffering and needed magical attention to recover.
2) Is it ethical to use magic on Muggles? Again, it may not always be ethical, but it is necessary in many circumstances. The wizarding world works hard to shield our magic from the Muggle community, and for good reason as we cannot have our nature revealed. As I understand it, there is a clause in one of the first wizarding laws that states that magic must only be used on Muggles if they could somehow endanger the wizarding world. Memory Modification is one of the best examples of how magic on Muggles should be applied, and for the correct reasons.
3) When is it Ethical to use a Hex or Curse? It is only ethical to use a Hex or Curse against another witch or wizard, and only in self-defence.
Silver walked nervously up to Professor Billyboro's desk and handed in her piece of parchment, unaware that where she had been tapping her quill against her lip she now had a rather large ink stain. She smiled at the Professor, hoping that her essay was good enough, and returned to her seat.

Athena's eyes filled with tears at the rebuke. She hadn't meant it that way at all. She wiped the tears, then said in a controlled voice, "I hadn't meant to offend you. I honestly thought that perhaps i had spoken to softly. I thought that you were a clever person to have used that charm so well. I apologize to you Issac for giving you the wrong impression and to you Kalista for i did not mean to be so... ignorant towards your friend."

Isaac mentally winced. He had not meant to make the girl cry by snapping at her, well, he hadnt really meant to snap at her. He removed a folded, navy blue silk hankerchief from a pocket, extending it to Athena. "I am sorry, I did not mean to make you cry." He said softly.

Athena accepted the handkerchief and wiped away dry her tears and said, "I guess all of us had a part in a misunderstanding." She folded the handkerchief back and handed it to Issac.
